It's all gonna be alright, we're gonna pick our chins off the floor
Then we can eat whatever we want and we're not gonna gain a pound
It's all gonna be alright, if we drink responsibly
If we smoke but don't inhale, and if we play air hockey tipsy
It's all gonna be alright, everything will be okay
It will all be fine with you and I here today
It's all gonna be alright, everything will be okay
It will all be fine, if you and I try we're gonna be okay
It's all gonna be alright, we're gonna hit a chinese buffet
We can paint each other with pudding and I'll let you beat me at Tetris
It's all gonna be alright, we'll get married to all our friends
So then they can't ever go away, legally they'll have to stay
It's all gonna be alright, everything will be okay
It will all be fine with you and I here today
It's all gonna be alright, everything will be okay
It's all in your mind, if you and I try we're gonna be okay
If you wanna go, if you don't wanna live no more
Life ain't for everyone, there's the door
But I think you should stay because it's gonna be okay
I've heard it from a reliable source
It's all gonna be alright, everything will be okay
It will all be fine with you and I here today
We're all gonna be alright, nobody will end up in jail
It will all be fine, if you and I try we're gonna be okay
Please direct your attention to the stage

I don't mind if you move alot, a home is not just made
I don't care if you stop the song where other bands normally fade
I don't mind if you love someone just because they love you too
And I don't care if you leave them just because you want something new
I don't care if I grow old and wrinkle from head to toe
I don't care if I don't wake up tomorrow, how would I ever know?
That's why all of my family hates me
All of my fans underrate me
All of my doctors sedate me
All of my girlfriends irritate me
All of my habits are detrimental
All of my music is experimental
All my drug use is accidental
I don't mind if you grow up wrong, it's better that you know the truth
I don't care if you grow up right and you discover the fountain of youth
I don't care if a tree falls down in the forest with no one around
Unless the waves hit someones ear, it never turns into sound
I don't care if you pray every night, there are covenants to renew
I don't care if you hate God, because he probably hates you too
That's why all of my family hates me
All of my fans underrate me
All of my doctors sedate me
All of my girlfriends irritate me
All of my habits are detrimental
All of my music is experimental
All my drug use is accidental

San Diego Doorways
03:16
|
|||
You look outside, it looks like nothings there
Things are going on but you're unaware
Those trees don't grow in this climate, so you'll never ever climb it
Don't you miss the canyon down below?
When the trees block the reception on your phone?
Plant a seed and fertilize it, looked for your house but I couldn't find it
Everybody's got the same doorways
They each come with sixteen windowpanes
You can liquidate your assets
You can change your name and address
All your spanish roofs look just the same
When you're flying right over the state
And you'll never take the top down unless you're blaring music downtown
You've all got the same black bottomed pools
You never get hot, you're all so cool
When you hang a towel to dry it, you let the privacy fence hide it
Everybody's got the same doorways
They each come with sixteen windowpanes
You can liquidate your assets
You can change your name and address
Everybody's got the same doorways
They each come with sixteen windowpanes
You can liquidate your assets
You can change your name and address
Why don't you change your name and address?
You'll never change your name and address

I Tried To Die Young
02:52
|
|||
I tried to die young which made me prematurely old
I made sure to overindulge in sex and drugs and rock and roll
But the sex produced a child, the drugs only worked for a little while
And rock and roll got boring on the night the audience stayed at home
I tried to die young which made up which made up ten miles of bad road
Which leads to a nice place to visit if you don't run into anyone you know
Because we all know how people talk, you southern belles just can't refrain from flapping your jaws
The rumors still abound about the nights when I was trying to die young
But I've only now realized that there's nothing wrong with stacking up the years and getting on
It's as if we say survivors don't belong
There's nothing worse than carrying on when there's nothing left to carry at all
I tried to die young, I couldn't live past twenty-seven
I couldn't leave a good lookin' corpse just yet
I hadn't left enough behind to live on
My next work will always be my best
The next record will always be my last
Hell, this could be the last time any of you ever see me alive
But I've only now realized that there's nothing wrong with stacking up the years and getting on
It's as if we say survivors don't belong
There's nothing worse than carrying on when there's nothing left to carry at all

Born Vintage
03:11
|
|||
I sold what I owned
Came home in a storm
Found out an old friend died in decal form
I take what I want from a store and I walk out
I may not think it's right but I'm not devout
I have my doubts
You need what they ask you to need
You want what they sell
I gave up on the Music Maker the minute they sold to Mattel
I can't spend the money I make on things that don't exist
I won't read your articles
If conditions persist, I will resist
We were born vintage but came out analog
We may not be right but we're not wrong
You're not right and we're not wrong
Give me your tired, give me your poor
And I'll give you Bee Thousand on cassette from '94
What's the point of being punk if punk means I belong?
I don't think their music's bad, I just think they're doing it wrong
It's only a song
We were born vintage but came out analog
We may not be right but we're not wrong
You're not right and we're not wrong
We were born vintage but came out analog
You're not right and we're not wrong

I've asked for your number but please let me explain
I'm not looking todate you, I don't think of you that way
Sure, you've got nice looks and a clear teenage complexion
But I'm just calling you because of your record collection
Jessica, I heard you like The Who
I do too
Jessica, here's what I wanna do
I wanna trade tapes with you
And sure, you're nice to look at, a regular teenage queen
But I don't wanna get in your pants, just inside your tape machine
Jessica, I heard you like The Who
I do too
Jessica, here's what I wanna do
I wanna trade tapes with you
I'm not asking for a date, I've just heard that you've got stellar taste
I'm not asking to be your mate, I want a high speed dub of your bootleg tapes
You've got the complete Live At Leeds and Sebadoh's import CD's
I don't care much about the birds and bees or getting to know you biblically
You say you like the Violent Femmes, I like Jonathan Richman
The Modern Lovers were his first band, but you say you've never heard of them
Which means that you have never heard their classic debut
Oh Jessica, i'll copy it for you
I wanna trade tapes with you

Where I come from, there are no lights when the sun goes down
Light up a fire and watch the embers fall to the ground
Where I once lived all the crossroads intersect
Everybody waits their turn, they've all got kids to protect
A glass of water, a smoke free room
Up early at morning, at your door at noon
A pen and paper, a first edition
Four dollars a day, I hope they call me on a mission
You never loved me, I found that out a lone
You could have told me, could have saved me from going home
But home is gone now, it's a valley with no sun
The mountains shadow everything and everyone
A glass of water, a smoke free room
Up early at morning, at your door at noon
A pen and paper, a first edition
Four dollars a day, I hope they call me on a mission
A glass of water, a smoke free room
Up early at morning, at your door at noon
A pen and paper, a first edition
Four dollars a day, I hope they call me on a mission

I'm Not Coming Home
02:12
|
|||
Oh lord how I've tried to live for the truth
Though I've rarely strayed, I have strayed from you
I've done bad things and I've been depressed
But I'm not coming home because I never left
So I sing this praise to a higher unknown
And ask that you love me as you'd love a son
I've done bad things with what I've been blessed
I'm not coming home because I never left
Show mercy on me when I am worn down
And I'll bathe the feet of those who surround
Please grant me sleep or some kind of rest
When I'm worn down...
I've shown my disdain for your mistreated words
I've turned a deaf ear, but with the other I've heard
Though I've done things that are best left unsaid
I'm not coming home because I never left

She drew a picture of you with wings, but you drew lines in the sand
She drew herself as a newborn wrapping her fingers around your hand
Maybe the wings were really arms, art is only what you make of it
Because she also gave herself bunny ears when she drew herselfin a crib
She drew a picture of a house, one I presume she's never seen
She wrote the importance of flowers, because you can have them for free
I guess that she kept me from jumping the gun, love is only what you make of it
She drew a picture of a family practice while she drew herself in a crib
She drew a picture of a flaming car, she drew up papers for her class ring
I was an expensive mistake, taper it off and let the healing begin
Maybe the wings were really checks, debt is only what you make of it
I went and picked her flowers while she drew herself in a crib

Satellite

This phone bill is a lesson I should learn
But paying for the damage is modus operandi
It's the grandest scheme for keeping people localized
I'd hold your hand if you weren't in Boston tonight
I would help intwine each seperate finger
Into sensitive parts of the back of my skull
The only thing you can't have is my forehead
That's where the doctor likes to go
I'm the coldest satellite in the farthest corners
Of a solar system full of ordinary people
Just like you
What you are like doesn't really matter
It's how influences get applied to your life
I guess you don't like me much now that you know all my secrets
I can't blame you for never asking why
It can't be cut and dried like it's from the butcher
But someone always gets drained just the same
I thought if I'd hide it all you'd lik eme better
The way you'd treat a girl you'll never see again
I'm the coldest satellite in the farthest corners
Of a solar system full of ordinary people
Just like you
Who would want a housepet for a housewife?
Traing should be left back in home ec
If you need me I'll be in the closet waiting
To serve you and serve your closest friends
I wouldn't raise a stink, I'd bring you paper and ink
So you can write about how flawed I really am
I'd bring you a drink when you couldn't get to sleep
And watch you from a pillow on the floor
I'm the coldest satellite in the farthest corners
Of a solar system full of ordinary people
Just like you

My house is a place where clothes are optional
I'm horizontal when you think I'm upright
I'm living in a habitat where pixels understand
That I'm only a man in broad daylight
Shield your casino eyes from what I claim as mine
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
When I say good night, that's when I feel alive
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
We went out to Walker Road, a tent that we could use to vote
On someone everybody can agree on
Someone that can use their head, housewives don't need opinions
A modern day door knocking politician
Shield your casino eyes from what I claim as mine
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
When I say good night, that's when I feel alive
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
The bus can be collateral for things that I don't have
Everyone I need is in the backseat
Trailer parks and CB names, a sex that never stays the same
The outer shell that's never seen a JPG
Shield your casino eyes from what I claim as mine
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
It's my stereotype that keeps me up at night
What you don't know is never gonna hurt you
